This is the pictures and info from our tours of downtown Nicosia last Thursday (2/2). A lot of the stores and nightlife are also in the same area, so I’ve actually ended up in the same couple blocks 4-5 times over the past week. The border to Turkish occupied Cyprus goes right through the city center, so we often end up right next to it during typical hijinks. I’ve decided I’m going to post pretty much every picture I took and not really filter them for quality.
Note the Greek orthodox church. There is also pottery and art from all throughout the history of human civilization, as Cyprus has been populated since humans initially came around. Our guide was a small Cypriot woman named Demetria. After the museum, she continued to lead us around the city. The soccer field is the Turkish border, and you can see the guard post. Some of the pictures show the Venetian walls that enclose the old city, and the metal plate with a gear-like icon is the symbol of a wall entrance. The last photos of the big park are right near the transit center, where busses lead.
